Ancol visitors learn to make bags from paper
The WWF Indonesia ran a newspaper recycling campaign called the Renews Program, at the Ancol Dreamland Park, North Jakarta, last weekend. The campaign informed people on how to convert old newspaper into bags on a truck named "Panda Mobile" parked near the Gelanggang Samudera Oceanarium entrance gate. Several visitors of the park that day dropped by the booth. "This has inspired me to make more at home," said attendant Ibu Heri. Her sister, Ida, said that she often reused her newspaper. WWF Indonesia regularly conducts the Renews programs to improve public awareness on recycling activities to reduce paper waste. A WWF Indonesia staff member, Titi, said that the latest Renews event at the Eco Product International Fair 2010 at the Jakarta Convention Center in Central Jakarta from March 4-7 was a success. "We event ran out of newspaper stock to make the bags," she said. Titi also mentioned that past Renews activities at Menteng Park and Plaza Semanggi, also in Central Jakarta, drew many visitors. She said the program did not hand out flyers to promote the event as it was not environment friendly. Titi said more people were interested in the Renews Program on Friday and Saturday, when the Panda Mobile parked near the Fantasy World (Dufan) Amusement Park entrance. She saidDufan had more visitors compared to Gelanggang Samudera.

Floods in Cirebon engulf 400 homes
CIREBON, West Java: Floods have again hit Cirebon, this time engulfing 400 homes in two villages in Waled district due to the overflowing Ciberes River. Floods began inundating residents' homes on Wednesday night at up to a meter high. Although the floods receded Thursday, a number of locations were still swamped by between 20 and 30 centimeters of water."Heavy rains in Cirebon since Wednesday evening had caused the Ciberes River to overflow and swamped 400 homes," said Waled district chief Kusdiono. The two villages affected by the floods are Gunung Sari and Mekar Sari villages. There were no reports of casualties, but the disaster caused damage estimated at hundreds of millions of rupiah.
